[VIDEO] Research Seminar on AI for Large-Scale Banking Infrastructures
A video recap of the FinAI-Lab research seminar on AI for large-scale banking infrastructure
A look back at the second research seminar on AI for large-scale banking infrastructure, organized as part of the FinAI Lab—a joint research lab between BNP Paribas and Télécom Paris—co-directed by Albert Bifet, Lea Deleris, Mariam Barry, and Thomas Le Goff, PhD.
Held on September 28, 2026, this event brought together researchers and experts to discuss a topic at the heart of today’s challenges: AI for large-scale banking infrastructure. The presentations sparked rich and constructive discussions on the challenges of developing machine learning systems capable of learning in real time, the detection of anomalies and fraud, as well as the reliability, traceability, and human oversight of decisions.
Streaming AI for Real-Time Banking Intelligence
Albert Bifet, professor at Télécom Paris and director of Te Ipu o te Mahara—The AI Institute at the University of Waikato, presented:
- AI streaming to learn and make decisions in real time based on continuous financial data.
- Adapting models to changes, including anomaly and fraud detection and real-time monitoring.
- The challenges for BNP Paribas: developing scalable, robust, reliable, and responsible AI.
“AI Streaming: Artificial Intelligence Tailored to a Constantly Changing World.”
— Albert Bifet
AI for Compliance: Case Studies, Opportunities and Challenges
Shonali Krishnaswamy, professor of machine learning at Monash AI Institute, innovator, and entrepreneur:
- A traceable and justifiable unsupervised machine learning is key to AI in compliance in banking and Financial Services
- Complementary methods: statistics, generative models, and neuro-symbolic approaches.
- The essential role of humans, who remain at the heart of decision-making.
“The challenge is to turn AI innovations into practical technologies by combining domain expertise with AI expertise.”
— Shonali Krishnaswamy
This second seminar reaffirms the FinAI Lab’s mission: to advance cutting-edge AI research for large-scale banking infrastructures by bringing together scientific, technological, and entrepreneurial expertise to address the challenges of the future.
